The reduced number of foreign tourists in goa were expected, however media has reported that the number of domestic tourists in goa was also reduced during the peak season of christmas new year. While the top end five star and other similar hotels were fully booked, smaller hotels appeared to have been worst affected.
The tourism department has blamed the hotel owners saying that they are inflating the room rate during the peak season, and domestic tourism will postpone their trip accordingly preferring to visit during the monsoon or offpeak season when the room rate will be far lower. It appears that the christmas new year season in goa will have a lower number of tourists as the number of visitors during the off season will increase as they have to pay far lower rates.
The poor infrastructure, town planning, lack of facities and corruption is also adversely affecting the image of goa. It appears that garbage or waste management in Goa continues to be extremely poorly planned, with junk littering roads at the entry point to the poshest areas in the capital cities. However those in charge refuse to honestly acknowledge the problems and solve them, wasting their time, energy and resources harassing people out of greed, jealousy and hatred.
