To reduce the losses, it appears that Air India is now focussing on ensuring that the airplanes carry the maximum number of passengers in a flight. Instead of spending money on promos and advertising which may or may not result in sales, it appears that they are focussing on the cost conscious traveller, whose schedule is flexible, and wishes to save money. In January 2016, AirIndia tickets were priced far higher than the private budget and other airlines, so passengers preferred the private airlines.
However in April 2016 for both the Goa to Mumbai and Mumbai to Goa route, the rates offered by Air India were far lower than the private sector airlines. Air India also has a frequent flyer program which can help a person get an almost free flight on Air India, if he or she will make a few trips using the airlines. Free food provided during the flight is another advantage of travelling. The flight may be slightly delayed, however people who are not very busy can tolerate the opportunity to observe the latest fashion, social and other trends at the airport.
It remains to be seen how long Air India will continue to offer the lowest priced tickets on the Mumbai Goa route.
